Song of the Day: “Oogie Boogie’s Song” - (a cover by) Tiger Army

It is now somewhere between Halloween and Christmas, and so, a perfect opportunity to share this excellent cover. I’m assuming you know the original - If not, please form a line so I can give a long sigh to each of you.

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah! Light some candles, spin some dreidels, eat some latkes…try to spell the damn thing, heh. Above is a great song by The Leeves (made up of members of Guster and The Zambonies) about that very problem. For some reason, the song’s official video was taken off YouTube, even though it’s still featured on the band’s Web site. Oh well, this is good too.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Song of the day: “Don’t Stop Believin’” - Glee Cast

In honor of an unexpected but excellent ending to an unexpected but excellent show, today’s Song of the Day is all Glee, all the time … Well, not all the time, but for the next three minutes, fifty seconds, boy is it ever! Enjoy.

Song of the Day: “If You’re Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To) (Acoustic)” - Weezer featuring Sara Bareilles

A little while ago, I mentioned an enjoyment of Weezer’s new single. That joy has now been upped ten fold with an acoustic version featuring Sara “No Freakin’ Love Songs ” Bareilles. It makes me want to dance…after I put on some nerd glasses and Converses, of course.

Song of the Day: “Hong Kong Garden” - Siouxsie and the Banshees

The famous Allison Johnson made me a mix of girly-rock, including this jem of a strange-80’s-alternative-punk-awesomeness. Rock on? I say so.

Song of the day: “Shooting the Moon” - OK Go

There’s not a lot to this song, but for some reason I can’t get it out of my head. One might even say I’m over the moon for it… No, I guess one wouldn’t say that.

Song of the Day: “My Roots Go Down” - The Seedy Seeds

My good friend Scott Livesay made me two CD’s full of awesome music (manly music for manly dudes), much of which I’d never heard before. Now, all of it was awesome, but for some reason the song that really caught my attention was by local Cincinnati band The Seedy Seeds. I’ve seen them in concert, and enjoyed their alt-rock rock, but something about this song makes me want to get up and dance. And you know what? I think I will… *Dances*

Song of the Day: “If You’re Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)” - Weezer

I’m almost ashamed to admit that it took me until today to hear Weezer’s new single, which is both semi-catchy and easily forgotten. I’m really using this as a placeholder, though, since I just received two CDs full of almost unknown music from my friend Scott, and I’m so excited to listen to them I might explode… but then I couldn’t listen to them, so I won’t.

Song of the Day: Goldfinger - “99 Red Baloons”

In honor of yesterday’s Balloon Boy debacle, I give you a cover of Nena’s famous anti-balloon protest song. Hmmmm, turns out you don’t need 99 balloons to make the world stop. One will do just fine.

Song of the Day: Miike Snow - “Silvia”

Why are there two “I”s in Miike? I don’t know and I don’t want to know. It’s just that awesome.
