Give this song a listen:

“Days/This Time Tomorrow” - Ray Davies and Mumford & Sons

One of my all time favorite songs being covered by one of my new obsession bands. Yes, I declare this a win.

Song of the day: “Leavin’ Cincinnati” - Jake Speed and the Freddies.

I got a surprise $5 MP3 Giftcard for Amazon.com, so I finally was able to pick up some awesome local Jake Speed and the Freddies. This song here is one of my favorites - ah, who doesn’t love a little bluegrass tongue and cheek.

“I’m leavin’ Cincinnati, cause I’m scared of downtown…”

Song of the Day: “Seven Nation Army” - a cover by Nostalgia 77 feat Alice Russell

This time, it’s my other brother who gave me a kick-butt song of the day. It’s not so much 4th of Julyie, but this Holiday’s all about freedom and doing what you want, right? Heck yes it is! Now if you’ll excuse, I’m going to cover lampposts with jelly and then set them on fire. Freedom, baby!

Song of the day:  “First of May” - Jonathan Coulton

It’s the First of May, and something wonderful starts today… (NOTE: Not even remotely safe for work.)

Song of the Day: “Ain’t No Grave” - Crooked Still.

This Johnny Cash cover ended season one of True Blood, and I can’t think of a better song to do it - even if vampire Johnny Cash rose out of his coffin and decided to play the original for the show, this is still more awesome.

…don’t give me that look, of course Johnny Cash is a vampire. Why do you think he always wears black?

Song of the Day: “Somebody Else” - Jeff Bridges
This, my friends, was a tough Song of the Day to pick…

Yesterday, I saw a DVD critic screener of Crazy Heart, and it was, well, crazy good. Sad, sweet, emotional and with the best music I’ve heard in a film all year.

So, in turn, the hard question - which song do I feature here on my blog?

Now, while “I Don’t Know” was my favorite, “Hold on Now” has been in all the commercials and “The Weary Kind” was nominated for an Oscar - I’m going with “Somebody Else.” I think it best captures the idea of the film, while still being mainstream enough to get people interested. It’s more rock-country then country-country (which could, and would, turn people away), and is so so so very catchy.

Also, who doesn’t love The Dude rocking out? That’s what sold me on it.

Please, PLEASE see this film. You won’t be disappointed.

Song of the Day: “Cape Cod Kawassa Kawassa” - Peter Gabriel and Hot Chip

This cover of Vampire Weekend’s best song is maybe, possibly, almost-certainly THE GREATEST THING I’VE EVER HEARD! *cry of happiness*

Song of the Day: “A Heady Tale” by The Fratellis.

I downloaded a crap load (offical unit of measurement) of indie rock over the weekend. This was one of the highlights. I’m loving The Fratellis more and more, plus how can you hate the lyrics: “Pull me up a chair and keep your money / There’s no guarantees / Won’t you please forgive me, but you know / Cold blooded women make me sneeze.” Awesome.

Song of the Day: “Sleepyhead” - Passion Pit

This song is unbelievably catchy/trippy. I’ve had it on repeat for the last ten minutes and, you know what? I’m about to play it again.

Song of the Day: “Ca Plane Pour Moi” - The Presidents Of The United States Of America

Who doesn’t love a happy-go-lucky cover of Plastic Bertrand’s French 1977 single. It’s pretty much one of life’s little two-minute joys.
